KOICA Provides 3.5 Billion KRW Medical Equipment Support to Bolivia Korean Hospital

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) held a donation ceremony on the 6th (local time) at the Oruro-Korea Hospital in the Bolivian highlands, providing medical equipment worth approximately 3.5 billion KRW.

The Korean government will provide a total of 9 million USD (about 10 billion KRW) by next year. Among this, the donation amount for medical equipment is 3.2 million USD (about 3.5872 billion KRW).

The donation ceremony was attended by the Governor of Oruro, the Mayor of Oruro, Ambassador Kim Hak-jae of Bolivia, Kim Sik-hyun, Director of KOICA Bolivia Office, and local health officials.

The Oruro Korea Hospital is a general hospital newly built by KOICA in 2017, and KOICA expects that this medical equipment support will greatly help strengthen the capacity of the local healthcare system.

Heison Ausa, Minister of Health and Sports of Bolivia, said at the donation ceremony, “We thank the government of the Republic of Korea for providing equipment to deliver necessary medical services to the residents of the Oruro region,” and added, “In particular, the equipment for the blood dialysis room will greatly contribute to the health management and quality of life improvement of residents with kidney diseases.”
