Launch of the 4th Industrial Revolution Committee 4th Term Led by 'Data and AI Experts'

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Presidential Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4th IR Committee) announced on the 7th that it has completed the appointment of 19 new private members for the 4th term following the expiration of the 3rd term private members' tenure, officially launching the 4th term.


The 4th term committee is composed of a total of 34 members, including the Prime Minister and the existing Chairman Yoon Sung-ro as co-chairs, 19 private members, and 13 government members. Among the private members of the 3rd term, three members?Park Myung-soon, Oh Hye-yeon, and Hwang Sun-ja?were reappointed. To better reflect private sector opinions and promote creativity and innovation, the participation of industry experts such as data and artificial intelligence (AI) specialists was expanded from 50% to 55%, and the proportion of youth members aged 34 or younger was significantly increased from 5% to 15%.


The committee also involved members from three special committees operating within the 4th IR Committee to strengthen linkage with special committee activities. A 4th IR Committee official stated, “The 4th term committee will continue its role as a presidential deliberative and decision-making body that creates innovative outcomes that the public can feel, such as the popularization of AI, in response to social changes driven by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In particular, as a public-private joint data control tower overseeing national data policy, it will consider ways to enhance the value and opportunities of data utilization and is expected to take the lead in making the Republic of Korea a leader in the data economy.”


Yoon Sung-ro, private chairman of the 4th IR Committee, said, “Together with the 4th term members who have field experience and expertise, we will strive for a swift transition to the digital economy. Through future activities of the 4th IR Committee, we will actively resolve issues that have not been solved so far in areas such as data and artificial intelligence and do our best to serve as a national governance role that consolidates public and private capabilities.”
