[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) has taken steps to strengthen the capabilities of small libraries.
On the 7th, Guro-gu announced, "To ensure the efficient operation and competitiveness of small libraries in the region, four small libraries have been designated as regional hub small libraries."
The hub small libraries are Supssok, Geuraegeurae, Dullegil, and Heungbune Picture Book Small Library. These hub small libraries form a close network with a total of 87 small libraries and are also used as educational venues for customized training and lectures.
Guro-gu held a designation ceremony for the hub small libraries and conducted customized lectures to strengthen the capabilities of small libraries.
First, on the 27th of last month, an online designation ceremony for the four hub small libraries was held. Encouragement remarks by Mayor Lee Seong and the presentation of plaques to the hub small libraries were conducted via video. Following this, author Jang Gang-myeong gave an online lecture on the topic "The Role and Revitalization Plans of Libraries in Local Communities."
On the 6th, author Baek Yu-yeon gave a lecture at Heungbune Picture Book Small Library on "Plans for Revitalizing Library Regions and Stories Related to Picture Books."
Customized education is also provided to train directors and volunteers with expertise and knowledge about libraries to strengthen the capabilities of village librarians.
The education takes place twice a week from May to June at the hub small libraries, consisting of a total of 12 sessions.
In addition, support necessary for the operation of small libraries is provided. The specialized Heungbune Picture Book Small Library receives funding for picture book purchases, and five other small libraries?Kkumteo, Byeolbitmaji, Geuraegeurae, Supssok, and Majungmul?are provided with card printers and book sterilizers needed for interlibrary loan operations.
A Guro-gu official stated, "We hope to become small libraries created by residents and where residents want to visit," adding, "We will do our best to prepare various support measures to strengthen the competitiveness of small libraries."
