Multi-Homeowners' Average Monthly Comprehensive Real Estate Tax 332,000 Won, Below Youth Monthly Rent Average (524,000 Won)
"Must Consult Whether It Aligns with 'Real Estate Justice'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Lee Nak-yeon, proposed investing the comprehensive real estate tax (종부세) paid by multi-homeowners to stabilize housing for young people without homes and single-person households. This is the first time Lee, who broke his silence on the 4th, has voiced his opinion on real estate as a presidential candidate. In particular, he pointed out that the tax on multi-homeowners is lower than the monthly rent paid by young people, drawing attention to whether there will be changes in the direction of the comprehensive real estate tax on multi-homeowners.
On the 6th, Lee attended the 'Korea Real Estate Policy Forum' held at the Yeouido Irum Center and stated, "Among all single-person households in Seoul, young households account for 41%, and urgent housing welfare is needed for them."
On that day, Lee diagnosed, "What the people want from real estate policy is to establish 'real estate justice' correctly," and emphasized, "Under the three principles of hope for the homeless, reassurance for single-homeowners, and responsibility for multi-homeowners, policies should be supplemented more carefully."
He pointed out, "Last year, the average monthly comprehensive real estate tax paid per multi-homeowner was 332,000 KRW, while young people living in the metropolitan area bear an average monthly rent of 524,000 KRW," and said, "We must ask ourselves whether it truly aligns with real estate justice that the tax paid by multi-homeowners is far less than the rent paid by young people without homes."
He added, "Appropriate taxes should be imposed on multi-homeowners, speculation should be curbed to resolve the withholding of listings, so that real estate prices stabilize and the lives of the people can be protected," and "This policy stance must be firmly maintained."
However, Lee pointed out, "Single-homeowner actual demanders should be protected."
He said, "The rapid rise in housing prices is the government's responsibility for failing to stop speculative forces and not supplying in time," and added, "The responsibility for the rapid rise in housing prices should not be shifted to the people. Tax burdens should be eased for single-homeowner actual demanders excluding high-priced homes, and easing the burden due to the increase in the official price realization rate should also be considered."
