Support of 190 million KRW for 3 Types
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Mapo Cultural Foundation announced on the 6th that it will hold a public contest for the '2021 Yesullo Up:業 CYCLE,' a support project aimed at establishing a creative safety net for artists as a business (業) within Mapo-gu and revitalizing art spaces. Applications will be accepted from the 10th to the 23rd, supporting 41 teams with a total budget of 190 million KRW.
Started last year and now in its second year, the '2021 Yesullo Up:業 CYCLE' has focused on supporting artists' creative activities and revitalizing art spaces by reflecting on the results of its operation. The support areas include ▲Art Creation Support ▲Space-Artist Collaboration Support ▲Cluster Expansion Pilot Support.
'Art Creation Support,' which supports various forms of artistic creation and experimentation, offers participation opportunities to artists based in Mapo-gu. Two new types centered on spaces have been established. 'Space-Artist Collaboration Support' connects art spaces and artists in Seogyo, Yeonnam, and Hapjeong for support. 'Cluster Expansion Pilot Support' is a pilot project to expand base areas within Mapo-gu, supporting spaces and artists in 13 neighborhoods excluding Seogyo, Yeonnam, and Hapjeong.
The 20 teams selected for 'Art Creation Support' will each receive 3 million KRW, and to support artists' free creative activities, if there is no clear deliverable, the activity can be replaced with an activity report. The 13 teams selected for 'Space-Artist Collaboration Support' will receive up to 7 million KRW each. The 8 teams for 'Cluster Expansion Pilot Support' can receive up to 5 million KRW each. Additionally, selected individuals and teams will participate in a practical artist-tailored networking program through gatherings with moderators.
This project is part of the '2021 Mapo-gu Art Hub Revitalization Project' called 'Culture Roadmap,' aiming to form art hub areas within Mapo-gu to ensure stable creative activities and livelihoods for local artists.
The project briefing session will be live-streamed at 6 p.m. on the day via the Mapo Cultural Foundation's YouTube channel. Applications can be submitted via email until 6 p.m. on the 23rd, and detailed information is available on the Mapo Cultural Foundation website.
Song Jeyong, CEO of the Mapo Cultural Foundation, said, "It is significant that the public-private governance directly supports the cultural and arts sector, which remains stagnant due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic," adding, "We hope this contest will help form a creative safety net for artists and support discovering the value of collaboration between spaces and artists, even if only a little."
