Choi Moon-soon "Presidential Election? Doubtful About Capability... Still Focusing on Duties as Governor"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Choi Moon-soon, Governor of Gangwon Province, said regarding his potential presidential candidacy, "I doubt whether I have the capability. For now, I will focus on my duties as governor."

On the 6th, Choi appeared on YTN Radio's 'Hwang Bo-seon's Start of the Morning' and was asked about his plans after his gubernatorial term ends. He replied, "I have no special plans and intend to farm potatoes."

However, he added, "I have been actively engaged in inter-Korean exchanges and it is something I can do well, so I will see if there is a role for me in that area when the time comes."

Regarding running for president, he said, "I myself question whether I have the capability, and since I still have duties as governor, I will focus on fulfilling them." This is interpreted as leaving the possibility open.

When the host mentioned Lee Kwang-jae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, as a presidential candidate from Gangwon, Governor Choi said, "He was trained under President Roh Moo-hyun and learned well, so I think he has that strength," adding, "He is also from Gangwon Province, but Gangwon's population accounts for 3% of the national population. To overcome this limitation well, I think a good vision must be prepared, and I believe he is preparing accordingly."
