Han Ye-ri: "Modern Dance Is the Expression of Individuality Suited to the Times"

The Korean Modern Dance Association announced on the 6th that actress Han Ye-ri has been appointed as the ambassador for the International Modern Dance Festival (MODAFE). She is a key figure who shone in the film "Minari" with her delicate expression and sincere acting. As a dance major who studied Korean dance, modern dance, and ballet, she was seen as suitable to promote the country's longest-running modern dance festival.

Han Ye-ri majored in Korean dance at the School of Traditional Arts, Korea National University of Arts. She said, "While preparing for entrance exams, I minored in modern dance and ballet and often came to watch the International Modern Dance Festival," adding, "I am grateful to be part of a festival where people who express themselves freely gather."

This year's International Modern Dance Festival will be held from the 25th of this month to the 13th of next month at Arko Arts Theater, National Theater Daloreum Theater, Sogang University Mary Hall, and other venues. The festival features top domestic choreographers such as Yuk Wan-sun, Choi Cheong-ja, Lee Suk-jae, Park Myung-sook, Park In-sook, Yang Jeong-su, Ahn Shin-hee, Jeon Mi-sook, Ahn Seong-su, and Ahn Eun-mi, as well as the National Contemporary Dance Company, National Dance Company, National Ballet Company, and Daegu City Dance Company.

Han Ye-ri said, "I like choreographer Ahn Seong-su the most. I have thought of his choreography as contemporary dance with Korean movements added," and added, "Compared to the early days of the team, it is now more scholarly and incorporates modern dance elements. The composition is so good that it feels like watching a well-made film."

She continued, "I also like choreographer Ahn Eun-mi, who incorporates Korean colors, themes, and stories into her choreography," and stated, "As the boundary between Korean dance and modern dance has collapsed, I think modern dance is dance that expresses individuality in a way that fits the times."
