[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] An incident occurred where an assailant broke into a liquor store operated by Korean American women in the United States and attacked them.
According to Baltimore local broadcaster 'WJZ' on the 3rd (local time), a man entered the 'Wonderland Liquor Store' on Pennsylvania Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland, and attacked the Korean American sisters who own the store.
According to CCTV footage posted by the family member Mr. Yoon on the fundraising site 'GoFundMe' and YouTube, Ms. A, Yoon’s aunt, was about to close the store door when a man suddenly appeared, grabbed the door, and tried to enter the store.
When Ms. A resisted to prevent the man from entering, he dragged her inside the store and threw her to the floor. As the resistance continued, the man struck Ms. A’s head with a cement brick he was holding. At that moment, Ms. B, Yoon’s mother, rushed out to intervene, and the man hit her head with the brick as well.
Despite the ongoing attacks from the man, Ms. A and Ms. B continued to resist and eventually pushed him out of the store. They later managed the situation with help from bystanders, but all of them were seriously injured and hospitalized. In particular, Ms. A reportedly sustained a severe head wound requiring 30 stitches.
The police arrested a man in his 50s as a suspect and charged him with aggravated assault.
