[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] The child of a police officer in her 50s belonging to the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, who fell into a coma due to cerebral hemorrhage symptoms after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine, posted a Blue House national petition urging a thorough investigation.
On the 3rd, the petitioner, who identified themselves as the child of female police officer A from the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, stated in a petition titled "I am the child of a female police officer who is in a coma after receiving the AZ vaccine," "I never imagined that my mother would be fighting for her life after the vaccination and that our entire family would suffer."
Earlier, A received the AstraZeneca vaccine on the 29th of last month, and three days later collapsed with suspected cerebral hemorrhage symptoms. She underwent two emergency surgeries and has not regained consciousness to this day.
The petitioner explained, "In the early morning of the 2nd, when the symptoms worsened, my mother suddenly experienced paralysis of all four limbs, twisted her entire body in pain, and her brain blood vessels had burst, causing swelling in the brainstem." They added, "She barely survived after a six-hour surgery, but part of her brain was already damaged, making recovery difficult. We were told she is in a critical condition where we do not know when she will wake up or pass away."
They continued, "My father experienced headaches after receiving the vaccine and said he had similar problems, but the hospital said it was difficult to make a definitive diagnosis." They added, "However, my mother had no underlying diseases in any part of her body and was truly healthy without any preexisting conditions."
The petitioner conveyed that despite the family's objections, A received the vaccine in order according to her responsibility as a police officer.
They said, "My mother served as a police officer for 35 years, living with pride in the organization more than anyone else, and she would never want the organization to be publicly discussed because of her own issues." They explained, "However, I wrote this petition hoping that no one else would experience the same case as my mother."
They also added, "I urge a thorough investigation so that there is no injustice to my mother’s honor as a police officer who fulfilled her duty, against the premature conclusion that there is no causal relationship between the AZ vaccine and the cerebral hemorrhage."
The petition posted that day had over 3,700 supporters as of 6 p.m., surpassing the preliminary consent threshold of 100 people, and has entered the review process for public disclosure.
The police and quarantine authorities are currently verifying whether there is a causal relationship between A’s symptoms and the vaccine administration.
