[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Kim Oh-soo (58, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 20), the nominee for Prosecutor General, expressed his thoughts on the 3rd, saying, "I feel a heavy responsibility to be nominated as the Prosecutor General candidate during these difficult and challenging times."

On the afternoon of the same day, immediately after being nominated by President Moon Jae-in as the new Prosecutor General candidate, Kim visited the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office and told reporters, "I will do my best to prepare for the confirmation hearing with a humble heart."

Kim's confirmation hearing preparation office will be set up at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office.

The preparation team will be led by Cho Jong-tae, Director of the Policy Coordination Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and will be organized with a minimal scale centered on personnel from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. Jeon Mu-gon, Director of the Policy Planning Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, will serve as the general team leader; Jin Jae-sun, Chief of the Seosan Branch of Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office, as the confirmation support team leader; Park Ki-dong, Director of Criminal Policy at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, as the policy team leader; and Lee Chang-soo, spokesperson of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, as the public relations team leader.

Kim is three senior classes above his predecessor, former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl. This is the first time a candidate senior to the former Prosecutor General has been nominated.

Since being recommended as one of four candidates by the Prosecutor General Candidate Recommendation Committee on the 29th of last month, he has been mentioned as a leading candidate.

He served as Vice Minister of Justice from the time of former Minister Park Sang-ki in 2018 until early last year under former Minister Choo Mi-ae. Due to this background, he is evaluated to have a high understanding of the prosecution reform, a key task of the Moon Jae-in administration.
