[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Regarding Kim Yo-jong, the Deputy Director of the Workers' Party of North Korea, issuing a statement threatening to "take corresponding measures" against the distribution of leaflets to North Korea, the Ministry of Unification stated that the 'Act on the Prohibition of Leaflet Distribution to North Korea (Amendment to the Act on the Development of Inter-Korean Relations)' "must be thoroughly implemented in accordance with its purpose."
A Ministry of Unification official said on the 2nd, "The government has been doing its best to protect the lives and safety of our citizens, implement inter-Korean agreements, and advance peace on the Korean Peninsula."
The Ministry of Unification emphasized, "Regarding the issue of leaflet distribution to North Korea, the police have formed a dedicated team to conduct investigations," and added, "The amended law under the Act on the Development of Inter-Korean Relations must be thoroughly implemented to align with its purpose of protecting the lives and safety of residents in border areas."
They continued, "We oppose any actions, including those by North Korea, that create tensions on the Korean Peninsula," and added, "We will continue to make relentless efforts for the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula and the development of inter-Korean relations."
