[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] On the 29th, Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin District, visited key local project sites to listen to the voices from the field and check the progress of ongoing initiatives.

First, Mayor Kim visited the integrated security post of the Korean and foreign autonomous crime prevention squads in Jayang 4-dong, which has been completed, to strengthen the public-private security cooperation system and encourage the members who are volunteering for the local community.

The newly established integrated post was created by merging the previously separate Korean and foreign autonomous crime prevention squads based on residents' feedback, to address concerns about crimes caused by intoxicated individuals entering the nearby Yangkkochi Street, a popular lamb skewer district.

Through this, a message of harmony between Koreans and foreigners is conveyed throughout the Yangkkochi Street area, aiming to promote more resident-friendly crime prevention activities.

Mayor Kim said, “The most important value to protect is ‘safety.’ It is significant that the Korean and foreign autonomous crime prevention squads, who have been volunteering in their respective posts for the safety of the village, have found a new place and established an integrated post.” He added, “I hope this becomes an opportunity for more residents to take an interest in the community and participate in village safety through communication.”

Following this, Mayor Kim Seon-gap visited the Achasan area together with heads of various functional organizations, including the Chairperson of the Residents' Autonomy Committee, the President of the Saemaul Leaders Gwangjin District Council, the President of the Gwangjin District Sports Association, and the Director of the Gwangjin District Cultural Center.

At the site, Mayor Kim listened to explanations about projects planned for the Achasan area over the next three years and shared opinions and communicated with residents.

In the Achasan area, by June, the existing narrow and aging Achasan Ecological Park parking lot and plaza will be transformed into a community space called the ‘Cultural Healing Plaza,’ where visitors can enjoy leisure and culture. Additionally, the ‘Barrier-Free Forest Trail’ will be extended from Achasan Plaza to Pyeongganggyo Bridge (820m), allowing everyone to safely and comfortably enjoy the forest.

Furthermore, in 2022, a forest library accessible and convenient for residents from toddlers to seniors will be established within Achasan Park, and in 2023, the ‘Hongryeonbong Fortress Ruins Exhibition Hall,’ showcasing Goguryeo relics within Achasan, will be constructed.

Mayor Kim Seon-gap of Gwangjin District said, “Achasan is a popular destination loved by many residents due to its convenient transportation and gentle mountain terrain.” He added, “We will spend the next three years making changes for residents so that visitors to Achasan can use the area more conveniently and enjoy culture, history, and leisure all at once. We ask for your active use and support.”
