[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 30th that it will hold the ‘Ontong Daejeon 1st Anniversary Ontong Sale’ from the 14th to the 31st of next month to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the local currency Ontong Daejeon issuance and Family Month.
The event’s core is to temporarily increase the Ontong Daejeon purchase limit from 500,000 KRW to 1,000,000 KRW per person next month and return up to 15% of the purchase amount as cashback to buyers.
However, the event will be divided into two periods: from the 1st to the 13th of next month, users can charge up to 500,000 KRW and receive 10% cashback, and from the 14th to the 31st, users can charge up to 500,000 KRW and receive 15% cashback on the amount used within the 500,000 KRW limit.
This is to prevent a sudden surge in charging amounts and to avoid early depletion of related budgets due to excessive cashback. For the same reason, the city recently reduced the monthly Ontong Daejeon charging limit per person from 1,000,000 KRW to 500,000 KRW.
The city also plans to expand sales for local small business owners through the event. Starting with Dong-gu on the 14th of next month, followed by Jung-gu, Seo-gu, Yuseong-gu, and Daedeok-gu, each autonomous district will hold a ‘District Day’ event for three days to increase consumption power through the use of local currency.
On District Days, 514 users who spend more than 10,000 KRW with Ontong Daejeon will be drawn daily (totaling about 10,000 people) to receive Ontong Daejeon policy allowances worth 10,000 KRW. The drawing will be conducted electronically, allowing multiple wins, but cancellations of payments will be excluded from winning.
Separate online events will also be held. The key of these events is to provide discount coupons and prizes to Ontong Daejeon users on the local exclusive online shopping mall ‘Ontong Daejeon Mall’ and the Ontong Daejeon delivery platforms ‘Bureusim’ and ‘Hwiparam’.
Among them, Ontong Daejeon Mall will offer online shopping linked with nine traditional markets in the area and free delivery service to enhance user convenience.
Additionally, the city plans to share the value of sharing and consideration by drawing 100 donors who contribute to the Warmth Sharing and Child Abuse Prevention fundraising through the Ontong Daejeon app and awarding them Ontong Daejeon policy allowances worth 10,000 KRW, making the event more than just a simple consumption activation.
During the event period, related organizations will participate to boost the Ontong Sale atmosphere. Hana Bank (the operator of Ontong Daejeon) will provide a Hyundai Venue compact SUV and mobile coupons worth 50 million KRW as prizes, and 39 Nonghyup Hanaro Marts in the region will offer up to 5% immediate discounts and discount coupons per mart to citizens who purchase more than 30,000 KRW using Ontong Daejeon.
For more detailed information about the event, please check the Ontong Daejeon app or website.
Ko Hyun-duk, Director of the City’s Job and Economy Bureau, said, “The city plans to hold Ontong Sale again in the second half of this year to overcome the COVID-19 crisis and stimulate consumption. We hope many citizens will enjoy abundant benefits through the event and participate in good consumption that revitalizes the local economy.”
