[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] As COVID-19 spreads recently among students, teachers, and private academy instructors in Mokpo City and Namak New Town in Muan County, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education is conducting comprehensive diagnostic testing (PCR) targeting 10,765 private academy and tutoring center workers and individual private tutors.
According to the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education on the 29th, a video conference was held the previous day, chaired by Administrative Director Kim Chun-ho, with city and county education support offices, regional branch heads of the Jeonnam chapter of the Korea Private Academy Federation, to discuss measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The video conference focused on early detection of infection through PCR testing, as well as ▲activation of autonomous quarantine teams within private academies ▲encouragement of voluntary participation in self-diagnosis apps ▲strengthening compliance with quarantine guidelines ▲and measures to eradicate illegal private tutoring.
In particular, in cooperation with Jeonnam Province, it was decided to conduct PCR testing for all 10,765 private academy and tutoring center workers and individual private tutors, and cooperation was requested from the Jeonnam chapter of the Korea Private Academy Federation to encourage voluntary participation.
The proactive PCR testing for early detection of infection will be conducted from the 29th until the 7th of next month at local public health centers and screening clinics from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Office of Education is operating a special intensive crackdown period to eradicate illegal private tutoring and is making all-out efforts to block infection, including proactive diagnostic testing.
Administrative Director Kim Chun-ho said, “Voluntary participation and cooperation of private academy workers are most important to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic,” adding, “We request active cooperation from the Academy Autonomous Purification Committee and the Academy Autonomous Quarantine Team for large-scale inspections of individual tutors and eradication of illegal tutoring, and we will actively support quarantine activities.”
