Gwangju Seo-gu, Creation of 'Green Road' Along Hoijae-ro in Pungam-dong

Gwangju Seo-gu, Creation of 'Green Road' Along Hoijae-ro in Pungam-dong

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) announced on the 29th that it has created a green road with health and beauty, where water and greenery harmonize, along Hoijaero street in Pungam-dong.

The green road project was promoted to reduce fine dust and provide a pleasant streetscape on streets with heavy vehicle traffic.

Through this project, the ordinary sidewalks were transformed into green spaces with flowers and trees.

To give pedestrians a refreshing feeling, 8,950 plants of 12 herbaceous species including Liriope and 2,118 plants of 14 species including Euonymus alatus were planted, and a 200-meter-long small stream with flowing water was created.

Additionally, sidewalk blocks near commercial areas were removed to create street gardens and resting areas where people can meet and communicate, creating spaces where people come together and providing psychological stability.

Seo-gu plans to continue creating street gardens in the second half of the year by planting local native plants and ground cover plants such as moss phlox and clover in public spaces near Majae Post Office, aiming to provide a pleasant street environment by reducing air pollution.

A Seo-gu official said, “We provided a green environment and resting areas for drivers and pedestrians passing through Hoijaero so they can have time to rest,” and added, “We hope residents can enjoy the lush greenery and temporarily put down the mental burdens caused by COVID-19 and other stresses.”
