[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] A total of 550 urban-type housing units will be supplied near Hongdaeipgu Station, a transfer station for Seoul Subway Line 2, Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and Airport Railroad.
On the 28th, Seoul City held the 7th Urban Architecture Joint Committee and announced on the 29th that it had revised and approved the designation of the district unit planning zone and the plan for the station area revitalization project at 157-1 Donggyo-dong, Mapo-gu.
The site was selected as a pilot project for station area revitalization announced by Seoul City in June 2019, and among the five pilot sites, it is the second to have its district unit plan decided after the Gongneung Station project site. To induce private development, the land use was changed from Type 3 General Residential Area to Neighborhood Business Area, and public contribution facilities were expanded according to the upgraded land use designation.
Accordingly, the site plans to supply 550 small- to medium-sized urban housing units, including 250 apartment units, 252 officetel units, and 48 public rental housing units. A complex center will also be established as a facility needed by the community, to be used for youth startups and cultural activities. Priority parking for residents will be installed as well. The lower floors will include non-residential facilities such as neighborhood living facilities, and open spaces will be created using publicly accessible areas.
After going through approval procedures such as the Architectural Committee review, the goal is to obtain a building permit in the second half of this year and complete construction by 2023.
Lee Jeonghwa, Director of the Seoul City Urban Planning Bureau, said, "We are promoting development by discovering sites near station areas that are underdeveloped but have great potential for growth and ripple effects," adding, "We will expand infrastructure that practically supports citizens' lives and realize desirable station area development."
