28 Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Signs Business Agreement... 20.1 Billion Won Construction Cost Burden and Underground Public Parking Lot Also Established
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) signed a business agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education on the 28th at the small conference room on the 3rd floor of the district office main building to rebuild the Gaepo Library (Seolleung-ro 4-gil 30), which has been standing for over 38 years.
As one of the key projects of the 7th local government administration, the district aims to renovate the Gaepo Library, which opened in 1984, and return it to the residents by 2024.
The current Gaepo Library, with 1 to 2 floors above ground and a total floor area of 2,377㎡, will be rebuilt into a building with 4 basement levels and 3 floors above ground, covering 13,330㎡. It will include a dedicated library space of 4,782㎡ and a library parking lot with 14 spaces (1,102㎡).
Basement levels 2 to 4 will feature an underground public parking lot (7,446㎡) with 183 parking spaces, alleviating parking difficulties for nearby residents.
According to the agreement, the district will partially bear the construction costs of the new library (4.6 billion KRW) and the underground public parking lot (15.5 billion KRW), totaling 20.1 billion KRW, and will use the parking lot free of charge until the building is preserved.
To this end, the district plans to complete preliminary procedures such as public architecture review within the year, allocate the related budget for next year, and complete construction by 2023.
Meanwhile, the agreement ceremony was attended by Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, and Lee Young-sun, Director of Gaepo Library. At the event, Jeong Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “We will continue to expand cultural and lifestyle convenience facilities that meet the refined lifestyle of our residents.”
