Gwangjin-gu, Training Local Cultural Artists as Art Instructors

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) and Gwangjin Cultural Center (Director Yang Hee-jong) are operating the ‘2021 Local Culture and Arts Professional Workforce Training Project’ to train local cultural artists as art instructors.

Now in its third year, this project was established to strengthen the capabilities of cultural artists and support their continuous activities, while providing customized cultural and arts programs to local institutions.

The recruitment target is a total of 25 cultural artists active within Gwangjin-gu, with 20 positions in the ‘On-site Art Education’ field, where they will be dispatched to institutions to conduct cultural arts education, and 5 positions in the ‘Cultural Content Development’ field to develop video content.

First, participants in the ‘On-site Art Education’ field will be divided by target groups such as infants, youth, elderly, and disabled, complete 12 sessions of training, and then be dispatched to institutions that wish to provide education to conduct classes.

Participants in the ‘Cultural Content Development’ field will develop video content combining local culture and arts, such as history and landmarks, so that any resident can easily enjoy it, in preparation for situations where lectures are difficult to conduct due to COVID-19.

Along with this, the district is recruiting a total of 20 institutions such as daycare centers, local children’s centers, and welfare centers that wish to receive ‘On-site Art Education.’ Selected institutions will be matched with cultural artists who have completed professional training to provide customized education.

Cultural artists and institutions wishing to participate can fill out the application form posted on the Gwangjin Cultural Center website and submit it via email by May 14. For more details, please contact the Gwangjin Cultural Center.

District Mayor Kim Seon-gap said, “This project was especially prepared to help local cultural artists who are going through difficult times due to COVID-19 to showcase their talents and continue their artistic activities,” and added, “We will continue to prepare various policies so that residents can enjoy culture and arts close to their daily lives.”

Meanwhile, last year, the district operated various cultural and arts programs while complying with quarantine rules for residents living restricted daily lives due to COVID-19.

They also produced cultural arts education programs as videos and distributed them to local daycare centers and elderly care institutions, receiving great responses from residents.
