Nowon-gu Provides 90% Support for 'Postpartum and Newborn Health Care Service Fees'

Postpartum Care Helper Service Copayment Fully Covered at 90%... Refunds of 355,000 to 1,297,000 KRW Based on Fetal Type and Birth Order

Nowon-gu Provides 90% Support for 'Postpartum and Newborn Health Care Service Fees'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) will support up to 90% of the 'Maternal and Newborn Health Care Service Co-payment' to alleviate the economic burden on families with newborns.

The 'Maternal and Newborn Health Care Service' is a postpartum helper support project where professionally trained health care workers visit childbirth families to provide maternal health care, newborn hygiene management, and care.

This service is partially subsidized by the government, but co-payments occur depending on the income level of the user household, resulting in a significant economic burden.

Accordingly, the district decided to fully support 90% of the co-payment within the standard type limit of the maternal and newborn health care service regardless of the user's income level, using district funds.

With this support, co-payments ranging from 355,000 KRW to a maximum of 1,297,000 KRW can be reimbursed depending on fetal type (single fetus, twins), birth order (first child, second child, etc.), and service period.

The support target is households that gave birth after January 1 of this year, applied for and completed the use of the maternal and newborn health care service, and have been continuously registered residents of the district for at least six months from before the infant’s birth until the reimbursement application.

Also, the infant’s birth must be registered in Nowon-gu. However, households with less than six months of residence can apply once the six-month period is reached within the application period.

Reimbursement applications must be made within six months after the end of the maternal and newborn health care service use and can be applied for online by accessing the 'Seoul Pregnancy and Childbirth Information Center.'

Required documents include the postpartum helper service contract, service provision records, co-payment receipt, and a copy of the bankbook in the mother’s name. The support funds will be deposited within 30 days after application.

Meanwhile, the district is carrying out various projects to strengthen support for pregnant and childbirth families and create the best environment for welcoming babies. Nurse home visit services for newborn families and the Baby Welcome Clean House project, which provides house dust mite removal, space sterilization, and pest control, are gaining popularity.

For 1,353 pregnant women, eco-friendly agricultural product packages worth about 410,000 KRW annually are provided to ensure nutrition management for both fetus and mother.

Additionally, the 'Nowon-gu Maternal and Child Health Center' has been established and will be operated on the 4th floor of the Nowon-gu Health Center. The Maternal and Child Health Center, which will provide professional and systematic health care services from pregnancy preparation to postnatal care for mothers and infants, is scheduled to open in June.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “I hope this project will be of practical help to families with newborns,” and added, “We will do our best to create a childbirth-friendly environment through various policies supporting healthy pregnancy and childbirth.”
