Appointment of ADD's First Female Deputy Director

Appointment of ADD's First Female Deputy Director

[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Jeong Jin-kyung, Deputy Director of the 4th Technology Research Headquarters, has been appointed as the Deputy Director of the Agency for Defense Development (ADD). This is the first time a woman has been appointed as Deputy Director.

According to the military on the 27th, Deputy Director Jeong Jin-kyung is recognized as an expert in high-energy technology, and it is expected that the development of ballistic missiles such as Hyunmoo-4 will accelerate.

ADD plans to integrate the guided weapon research and development departments, which were previously scattered across various technology research headquarters organizations. The intention is to gather the core missile technologies scattered across the Army, Navy, and Air Force into the Missile Research Institute to concentrate capabilities. After the Moon Jae-in administration took office in 2017, the revision of the South Korea-U.S. missile guidelines removed restrictions on range and warhead weight, leading to the development of more powerful ballistic missiles. ADD is known to have named the ground-launched surface-to-surface ballistic missile based on the launch site as 'Hyunmoo 4-1,' the ship-launched surface-to-surface ballistic missile as 'Hyunmoo 4-2,' and the submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) as 'Hyunmoo 4-4.'
