"Chatting in Real-Time with Loyal Viewers" KT Launches 'TV Chatting' Service

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced on the 27th that starting from the 28th, it will launch the ‘TV Chatting’ service, which allows people watching the same TV program to communicate in real time through their smartphones. The newly introduced TV Chatting is a media convergence communication service that enables interaction among viewers watching programs that support real-time chat services.

The TV Chatting service does not require a separate subscription. KT subscribers using Samsung Electronics or LG Electronics Android smartphones can select the broadcast channel from the chatbot menu within the Chatting Plus feature of the messaging app to use the service.

When entering the chat room and sending a message, the message appears on the TV screen, allowing real-time conversation with other viewers watching the same program. Up to 5MB per message can be sent free of charge, and messages exceeding 5MB will incur a data usage fee of approximately 22 KRW per 1MB.

KT explained that the TV Chatting service was launched by combining Android smartphones’ RCS (Rich Communication Service) with Olleh TV to meet the demands of customers who want to actively communicate with others sharing the same sentiments while watching TV programs.

For program producers or broadcasters adopting ‘TV Chatting,’ it is possible to check viewers’ reactions to the program in real time, which can be referenced for future program production.

The TV Chatting service will be available through the Seezn original content ‘Hidden Track 3,’ airing at 9 PM on channel #4906 of Olleh TV on the 28th. Viewers can send chat messages via the ‘TV Chatting’ chatbot in the Chatting Plus app while watching the channel.

KT plans to continue expanding the service by offering ‘TV Chatting’ not only for Seezn original content but also as a program-customized B2B service for other broadcasters’ programs.
