Pohang City Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for Heunghae Complex Community Center... 15 Billion Won Invested, Completion Scheduled for Next Spring

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] On the 23rd, Pohang City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 'Heunghae Complex Community Center' at the demolition site of Daewoong Park 2nd in Namseong-ri, Heunghae-eup.


The groundbreaking ceremony was held in compliance with quarantine rules following the implementation of social distancing level 1.5 due to COVID-19, with the attendance of Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, Baek In-gyu, Vice Chairman of Pohang City Council, and Kim Jung-jae, National Assembly member (Pohang North).


The construction of the Heunghae Complex Community Center is part of the Heunghae Special Regeneration linkage project triggered by the Pohang earthquake and was selected in 2019 as a Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Life SOC public contest project. Heunghae-eup was the area most severely damaged by the earthquake in 2017.


Pohang City has invested a total project cost of 15 billion KRW to design the complex community center as a sports and cultural complex space including a swimming pool, sports center, life culture center, together care center, and a small library. It is planned as a building with one basement floor and four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 4,816.01㎡, aiming for completion in the first half of next year.


Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang emphasized, "The construction of the Heunghae Complex Community Center, one of the various special regeneration linkage projects underway in Heunghae, will be utilized as a hub facility for cultural and sports activities for Heunghae residents and will greatly contribute to improving the quality of life of the residents."
