Hapcheon-gun, Tourism Council, and Smart Tourism Association Collaboration
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, held a meeting on the 23rd in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of the county office, hosted by the Hapcheon-gun Tourism Association, to revitalize the Hapcheon Vacance Festival suitable for the era of coexistence with COVID-19.
This meeting was the first report session on the festival revitalization service project conducted for the purpose of the Gyeongnam-type DM project. Attendees included Moon Jun-hee, the mayor of Hapcheon-gun, directors and members of the Hapcheon-gun Tourism Association, and representatives of member companies of the Korea Smart Tourism Association. They presented and discussed the direction of the Hapcheon Vacance Festival through analysis of big data on county tourism.
The Hapcheon Vacance Festival is a representative festival along with the Cost Park, but it was canceled last year due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), and this year’s situation remains uncertain. Therefore, this meeting holds great significance as it is a timely moment to transition the festival into one suitable for the COVID-19 era.
The Korea Smart Tourism Association conducted the meeting in the form of proposals on Hapcheon tourism big data analysis and festival direction, with participants expressing opinions and receiving responses.
During the meeting, various opinions for tourism development were derived, including transitioning the Vacance Festival to a hybrid online and offline event, the need for resident participation, the necessity of a stay-type festival linking food, tourist attractions, and accommodations, sales of local specialties through online commerce, and service improvement education.
Mayor Moon Jun-hee expressed gratitude for “successfully carrying out resident participation projects such as the operation of a video academy by the Hapcheon-gun Tourism Association to create local jobs and the flea market,” and requested that going forward, “the Vacance Festival secure sustainability and independence through public-private cooperation, and that everyone plays their role well.”
Chairman Kang Gil-su of the Tourism Association said, “Although we have been aware of the problems so far, it is significant that we have prepared a dialogue opportunity on the direction of the festival based on objective data through big data analysis of 11 channels including telecommunications companies, card companies, and various SNS related to Hapcheon travel,” and added, “We will review the derived opinions and complete the research service.”
