[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Korea Industrial Complex Corporation (Chairman Kim Jeong-hwan, hereinafter referred to as KICOX) announced on the 23rd that it donated 2,100 trees and participated in a tree planting event in the Hajang-myeon area of Samcheok-si, Gangwon Province, to create a carbon-neutral forest in the Gangwon region. This event was held together with Tree Planet, an environmental protection social innovation company that recently signed a 'Forest Ecological Function Restoration Forest Creation Agreement' with KICOX.
KICOX is conducting the 'KICOX 2021 Green Walk' campaign, where steps taken are converted into donations, to share the value of spreading ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management and fulfill its social responsibility as a public institution. This campaign is a non-face-to-face health promotion program for employees, operated instead of annual sports events since last year to comply with COVID-19 prevention guidelines and overcome 'Corona Blue.' Through step donations, it participates in forest maintenance projects in the Gangwon region, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration and carbon emission reduction.
The original campaign period was one month from the 5th, but due to active participation by employees, the target of 210 million steps was already exceeded, resulting in the donation of 2,100 trees. Chairman Kim Jeong-hwan said, "Our corporation is making efforts to transform industrial complexes into low-carbon and eco-friendly spaces in relation to the Smart Green Industrial Complex, one of the ten major tasks of the Korean New Deal." He added, "Through the non-face-to-face walking campaign, we will not only promote the health of our employees but also take this opportunity to become an institution that practices carbon emission zero through step donations."
