NSC Standing Committee Discusses Measures for Fukushima Contaminated Water Discharge

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 22nd, the Blue House held a Standing Committee meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) chaired by Suh Hoon, Director of the National Security Office, to discuss countermeasures against Japan's discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

The attendees emphasized that the health and safety of our citizens and environmental protection must be the top priority, and that the safety must be thoroughly verified. To this end, they agreed to continuously take necessary measures in cooperation with the international community.

To overcome COVID-19, they closely reviewed the global vaccine supply situation and decided to continue diplomatic efforts to secure additional vaccine quantities and expedite their introduction.

Furthermore, they reviewed the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the region, and agreed to strive for the prompt resumption of dialogues among relevant countries, including North Korea-U.S. talks, under the ROK-U.S. cooperation.

Attending the Standing Committee meeting were Lee Ho-seung, Director of Policy Office at the Blue House; Lee Tae-han, Senior Secretary for Social Affairs; Park Soo-kyung, Science and Technology Advisor; and Jang Bo-hyun, Secretary General of the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission.
