Sefratech Selected for Domestic Technology Development Project on Ultra-Low Concentration Dissolved Oxygen Removal Degassing Membranes

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Membrane specialist company SepraTec announced on the 22nd that it has been selected for the "Ultra-Low Concentration Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Removal Membrane Degassing Domestic Technology Development Project" (hereinafter referred to as the Technology Development Project).

The total project cost, including phases 1 and 2, is approximately 1.8 billion KRW. Of this, 1.4 billion KRW is funded by the government. The technology development project will be conducted over a total of 45 months covering both phases 1 and 2, with the decision to proceed to phase 2 made after evaluation upon completion of phase 1. Phase 1 runs from this month until December 2022, and phase 2 from January 2023 to December 2024.

Generally, gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide exist dissolved in water. In industries requiring high levels of cleanliness, such as semiconductor processing and biotechnology, high-purity industrial water with dissolved gases removed is used. To ensure purity, high-purity industrial water undergoes multiple processing stages, among which membrane degassing (MDG, Membrane Degassing) plays a role in removing dissolved gases within ultrapure water treatment processes.

Through this technology development project, SepraTec plans to establish the development and operational technology of membrane degassing for producing high-purity industrial water for semiconductors, currently monopolized by global company M, thereby achieving domestic production.

A SepraTec representative stated, "As a specialized membrane technology company, we possess Membrane Contactor technology that offers higher dissolved gas removal efficiency compared to conventional degassing processes such as decarbonation. Through this project, we aim to lay the foundation for domestic production of materials in the high-purity industrial water market, where demand is increasing in sectors like semiconductors and biotechnology."

Meanwhile, Envionia participated in SepraTec's third-party allotment paid-in capital increase in January and currently holds a 54.71% stake.
