Yoo Junsang Donates 100 Million Won to the Korean Musical Association

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dong-hyun] The Korea Musical Association announced on the 22nd that actor Yoo Jun-sang donated 100 million won to support the development of the Korean musical industry and to offer comfort amid the COVID-19 situation.

In this regard, the association recently held a donation certificate ceremony. Reflecting the current COVID-19 situation, the ceremony was held on a small scale. The donation received from actor Yoo Jun-sang will be used, according to the donor's wishes, to establish a creative foundation for nurturing prospective musical professionals and to promote the development of the Korean musical industry.

Additionally, based on actor Yoo Jun-sang's donation, the association will also promote the 'YOU TREE Project,' an infrastructure support program aimed at developing the musical market ecosystem. This includes a double entendre meaning of 'a growing tree started by actor Yoo Jun-sang, a tree for you.'

The 'YOU TREE Project' is expected to expand as a continuous support program for young actors and staff responsible for the future of Korean musicals, activation of the creative musical market, and policy research for the development of the musical industry.

Lee Yu-ri, Chairperson of the Korea Musical Association, stated, “Actor Yoo Jun-sang intended to keep this donation private, but considering the current situation where the entire market is shrinking due to COVID-19, the donation is seen as a message of hope, so we insisted on holding the ceremony. Actor Yoo Jun-sang's donation will be the root of the 'YOU TREE Project,' and it will be operated to address urgent and priority tasks within the Korean musical ecosystem.”
