[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in will attend the Climate Summit via video conference on the evening of the 22nd and deliver a speech on the theme of 'Achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050.' The Blue House announced that President Moon will attend the Climate Summit held from 9 PM to 11 PM (Korean Standard Time) on the same day via video conference, upon the invitation of U.S. President Biden.
The Climate Summit was convened to consolidate the enhanced climate response commitments of participating countries to achieve the Paris Agreement goals and carbon neutrality by 2050, with 40 member countries including South Korea attending.
President Moon will participate in Session 1 alongside the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Japan, and others, delivering a speech on South Korea's strengthened climate action to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. He is scheduled to speak 11th in order.
In his speech, President Moon will announce additional efforts to raise South Korea's 2030 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for greenhouse gas reduction and express a strong commitment to actively participate in global coal phase-out efforts.
The Blue House stated that attending this Climate Summit "will also contribute to expanding the multifaceted Korea-U.S. alliance" and described it as "an important occasion to strengthen climate leadership in the international community."

During his video speech, President Moon will wear an eco-friendly tie made by a Korean small and medium-sized enterprise from recycled fabric using waste plastic. This is to convey a strong commitment to carbon neutrality while showcasing the sustainable industrial development achievements of Korean companies.
