[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 22nd that it will increase the number of city buses passing through Gwangju-Kia Champions Field on Saturdays and Sundays when baseball games are held to improve transportation convenience for spectators using the stadium.
Starting with the weekend game on the 24th, additional city buses passing through Gwangju-Kia Champions Field will be operated on days when the Kia Tigers have weekend home games (a total of 20 times) until October 3rd.
The routes to be increased are the main lines frequently used by citizens: Maewol 16, Unlim 51, and Cheomdan 95. On weekend game days only, the number of trips will be increased by 17 compared to usual, shortening the average interval between buses by 2 to 3 minutes, which is expected to help reduce congestion inside the buses.
Son Doo-young, head of the city's public transportation department, said, "When Kia Tigers games are held, severe traffic congestion occurs around the stadium due to illegal parking and stopping," and urged, "Please use public transportation when watching baseball games and be sure to wear a mask when boarding city buses."
Meanwhile, spectators using public transportation to watch games at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field receive a 1,000 won discount on admission fees when paying with the Hanpay Card.
