Naver Data Center 'Gak Sejong' Groundbreaking Ceremony "Target Completion by End of Next Year"

[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Naver Cloud announced on the 22nd that it will create world-class cloud infrastructure through its data center 'Gak Sejong.'

Naver Cloud held a groundbreaking ceremony for the data center 'Gak Sejong,' which is scheduled to be established in Sejong City. Naver Cloud plans to complete the data center by the end of 2022.

Through the establishment of 'Gak Sejong,' Naver Cloud aims to secure world-class cloud infrastructure and contribute to enhancing national competitiveness.

'Gak Sejong' is a hyperscale data center with a total area of 293,697㎡. It is planned to be built in the urban high-tech industrial complex in Jiphyeon-dong 4-2 district, Sejong City. It is six times larger than Naver's first data center, 'Gak Chuncheon.'

Hyperscale data centers can build and operate at least 100,000 servers, enabling large-scale expansion of computing environments in advanced industries such as big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics, significantly increasing data utilization.

Sejong City is focusing on AI as a core industry as well as autonomous driving technology businesses. The company explained that the establishment of 'Gak Sejong' is expected to activate research and development of 4th industrial revolution-related technologies through organic collaboration between Naver Cloud and Sejong City.

As part of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, including achieving carbon neutrality, Naver Cloud emphasized implementing green tech functions in 'Gak Sejong.' From site selection to design, construction, and operation, solutions were realized to coexist with nature and achieve optimal energy efficiency throughout the entire process.

Lee Chun-hee, Mayor of Sejong City, said, "Through cooperation with Naver, administrative capital Sejong will grow into an economic and industrial hub leading the 4th industrial revolution era in smart cities and autonomous vehicles," adding, "We will spare no administrative support to ensure that Gak Sejong, constructed on a global scale, is safely completed as planned."
