Kazem, President of Korea GM, Visits Boryeong Plant... Ceremony Celebrating 5 Million Transmission Units Produced

[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Kaher Kazem, President of Korea GM, visited the Boryeong plant, which surpassed a cumulative production of 5 million transmissions, to commend the employees' contributions and express his commitment to business normalization. According to Korea GM on the 22nd, President Kaher Kazem visited the Boryeong plant in Chungnam the day before, engaging in on-site management by communicating with the labor union and employees.

Established in 1996, the Boryeong plant is a specialized factory producing GM's automatic transmissions, and since 2007, it has been the first GM global site to produce 6-speed automatic transmissions. Recently, the cumulative production volume also exceeded 5 million units.

The Boryeong plant also achieved a record of 48 consecutive months without accidents and was selected as a site with the highest safety performance recognition award from the GM group. President Kazem stated, "The milestone of producing 5 million units is a very meaningful achievement resulting from the Boryeong plant's consistently high levels of safety, quality, productivity, and stable labor-management relations," adding, "The Boryeong plant is currently recognized as one of the most competitive transmission production plants within GM."

The company explained that President Kazem's visit to the Boryeong plant this time was to reaffirm the fulfillment of the business normalization promises made with stakeholders in 2018. Earlier, in January, President Kazem also visited the painting plant construction site within the Changwon plant to directly check the progress of facility investments for the production of next-generation global new products.

Meanwhile, Korea GM is conducting a company-wide 'Quality and Safety Culture Campaign' as part of efforts to normalize management and improve quality and safety. Through this, Korea GM aims to secure the highest level of quality within GM in design, engineering, parts, and production fields by 2023.
