Pohang City will invest a total of 5 billion KRW over three years from this year to 2023 for modernization construction, including rebuilding the existing old market stalls and renovating various auxiliary facilities.
First, having secured a project budget of 1 billion KRW, Pohang City announced on the 21st that after completing the basic and detailed designs within this month, construction is scheduled to begin in October.

Gigae 5-Day Market, located in Hyeonnae-ri, the administrative center of Gigae-myeon, Buk-gu, is one of Pohang's representative markets made even more famous by poet Park Mok-wol's poem "Gigae Market Day."
On the 21st, Mayor Lee Kang-deok, who visited the Gigae Market 5-Day Market site, said, "We will proceed with the project without delay to create a pleasant environment in Gigae Market where you can feel generous hospitality and warm affection," and promised, "We will address policy proposals from small business owners for the revitalization of traditional markets and the local economy, as well as citizens' livelihood issues and inconveniences directly on site."
