[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has taken its first step in a project where local youth directly discover tourism products to simultaneously promote job creation and tourism revitalization.
On the 21st, Gwangsan-gu announced that it signed a business agreement to promote the "Gwangju University Local Crew Project," a new regional tourism business model, with Brown Company Co., Ltd., Gwangju University, Honam University, and Nambu University, universities in the Gwangju area.
The "Gwangju University Local Crew Project," which will be promoted through this agreement, is a project led by MZ generation (a compound term of Millennials and Generation Z) university students who directly plan and operate travel and tourism programs in Gwangju.
It is expected to establish a new regional tourism business model that fosters young people as local crews who know the region well, creating tourism-type youth jobs and revitalizing the local economy through the development of tourism-specialized products.
After the agreement ceremony, Gwangsan-gu will publicly recruit 50 local crews through the EX Crew website and will officially proceed with the project aiming for 200 tourism-specialized products by the end of the year.
In addition, to ensure that tourism products are not one-time events, the project team will systematically support local crew education and training through the organization of the project team.
There are also plans to expand the project to Gwangju and Jeonnam, recruit local crews, and develop tourism products in connection with nearby cities.
Kim Sam-ho, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, said, "Through this project, we expect to contribute to the revitalization of the local economy by creating new tourism-type youth jobs called local crews and developing sustainable tourism-specialized products," adding, "We will strive to establish it as a representative new regional tourism business model unique to Gwangju."
