[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Junhyung] Gongyoung Shopping announced on the 20th that the special broadcast held on 'Disability Day' recorded orders exceeding 600 million KRW.
To commemorate the 41st anniversary of 'Disability Day' this year, Gongyoung Shopping prepared a special broadcast to promote the excellence of products from disability-owned companies and to encourage consumption. According to Gongyoung Shopping, the amount ordered during this broadcast was 630 million KRW.
Seven companies participated in the special broadcast. All seven companies are disability-owned businesses, either led by representatives with disabilities or having a workforce with more than 30% disabled employees.
Dubinnarae Cooperative, which produces the 'Dubinnarae Nurungji' sold during the broadcast, is a cooperative formed by people with developmental disabilities, with 14 out of 20 employees being individuals with developmental disabilities. Gongyoung Shopping sold Dubinnarae Nurungji using a so-called 'direct purchase' method, buying all products before the broadcast to fulfill orders. Gongyoung Shopping explained that due to the cooperative's relatively small scale and limited production volume, securing inventory for broadcast sales was difficult, hence the use of the direct purchase method.
A Gongyoung Shopping official said, "We hope consumers remember these products as good products rather than just products from disability-owned companies," adding, "As the only public institution in the home shopping industry, we will continue to discover and introduce meaningful products."
