Reducing Single-Use, Recycling Discarded Plastics... Fashion Industry Leads in Eco-Friendly Initiatives Breathe Silver 'Breathe TinyTan Sport Pro'

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] As the COVID-19 pandemic prolongs, leading to an increase in disposable products and packaging waste, the fashion industry has taken steps to reduce waste. They are leading eco-friendly initiatives by producing masks that are reusable instead of disposable, and introducing products made from recycled plastics.

According to the fashion industry on the 21st, Breath Silver's 'Breath Tinytan Sports Pro' is gaining high consumer interest. The 'Breath Tinytan Sports Pro' is a high-performance mask with an integrated filter, optimized for daily life as well as indoor and outdoor sports activities. It has attracted attention as a reusable product that maintains filter performance even after 20 hand washes. Available in various colors such as navy, gray, purple, and black, it has received strong responses from the younger generation who are highly interested in fashion.

The eco-friendly consumption trend has also fueled the popularity of recycled products or products made from 100% recyclable materials. Fila recently introduced the 2021 Spring/Summer season 'Project 7: Back to Nature Collection,' inspired by nature and the environment. They applied environmentally conscious recycled materials such as 'Coolmax Ecomade,' made from collected PET bottles, and 'Mipan Regen,' a recycled nylon yarn made from waste, to clothing and accessories.

Black Yak launched the eco-friendly 'Plustic Collection,' made from PET bottles used domestically. 'Plustic' is a compound word of 'plus' and 'plastic,' meaning that recycling plastic adds a plus to the Earth. By combining K-rPET recycled fibers with outdoor technology, the collection embodies both eco-friendliness and functionality. The collection includes various items such as T-shirts, jackets, and pants, with each product recycling a minimum of 15 to a maximum of about 30 PET bottles based on 500ml per bottle, depending on the type.

Eco-friendly packaging has also become a trend. Organic cosmetics brand Dr. Bronner's introduced a 'Zero Plastic Eco-friendly Delivery Package' made entirely of paper packaging that can be separated and recycled in one go. Instead of vinyl cushioning or vinyl tape, the eco-friendly delivery package uses pulp paper cushioning and paper kraft tape. The mold that secures the product during delivery is specially made to fit the product size using recycled pulp molds instead of commonly used plastic materials such as Styrofoam or vinyl air caps. All cushioning materials, including the box, are made from eco-friendly unbleached paper materials, allowing for unified recycling and minimizing delivery waste.
