[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has received favorable reviews from the elderly by supporting 873 'silver cars (elderly mobility aids)' over three years since 2019.

On the 21st, the county announced that it purchased and delivered 200 silver cars to low-income elderly people who have difficulty walking due to senile diseases.

The silver car support project is one of the elderly welfare policies that the county has been focusing on since 2019.

In 2019, 227 units were supported, and an additional 120 units were supported through private sponsorship. In 2020, 224 units and 102 units through private sponsorship were supported.

Including 200 units this year, a total of 873 units have been supported over three years. This corresponds to 6.7% of the total elderly population in Sancheong-gun.

Companies participating in the silver car support project along with Sancheong-gun include Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Namgang Branch of Korea Water Resources Corporation, Sancheong Branch of the Korea Expressway Corporation, and Sancheong Pumped Storage Power Plant, among others.

Recently, the Community Security Council composed of residents from each eup and myeon area has also been contributing little by little.

The county plans to continue the silver car support project at the level of 200 units next year as well, securing budgets such as provincial subsidies to continuously promote the project.

Lee Jae-geun, mayor of Sancheong-gun, said, "I hope this will help elderly people with mobility difficulties live safely and comfortably," and added, "We will continue to strive to expand silver car support to increase opportunities for the elderly to participate in social activities."

In addition to the silver car support project, which is a campaign pledge, the county is promoting welfare policies for local elderly people in various fields such as elderly job creation and social activity support projects.
