6 New COVID-19 Cases in Gwangju... Continued Spread Linked to Damyang Social Gathering and Other Regions


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Six COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Gwangju Metropolitan City.


According to Gwangju City on the 21st, as of 2 p.m. that day, six people were confirmed positive and classified as Gwangju cases 2317 to 2322.


By infection route, one case is related to Seoul Dobong-gu case 1089, one case is related to a friend gathering in Damyang, two cases are related to Jeonnam case 1008, and two cases have unknown infection routes.


Gwangju case 2317, a resident of Gwangsan-gu, had contact with Dobong-gu case 1089. The infection route of the Dobong-gu case is unknown, and the cumulative number of confirmed cases related to this case has reached three.


Gwangju cases 2318 and 2319 were finally confirmed positive at screening clinics after symptoms appeared, and their infection routes are under investigation.


Gwangju cases 2320 and 2321 overlapped in movement with Jeonnam case 1008. The health authorities report that contact occurred at a hof (Korean pub). The cumulative number of confirmed cases related to Jeonnam case 1008 has increased to four.


Gwangju case 2322 is related to the Damyang friend gathering cluster. This individual developed symptoms during self-quarantine and tested positive.


The health authorities explained that the spread of infection from the Damyang friend gathering is subsiding. Most confirmed cases are occurring within controllable ranges such as tests before the end of self-quarantine.


The cumulative confirmed cases related to this cluster are 28 in Gwangju, 16 in Jeonnam, 2 in Jeonbuk, and 1 in Seoul, totaling 47 cases.


Meanwhile, as a measure for the cluster infection at a daycare center in Nam-gu where five children and three teachers were confirmed positive the previous day, the facility has been closed and disinfected.


One confirmed teacher (Gwangju case 2312) visited a large church in Nam-gu on the 18th, which has also been temporarily closed. About 200 church members who had contact with Gwangju case 2312 are scheduled to undergo diagnostic testing within the day.
