Gwangyang City Joins Policy for a Child-Friendly City

POSCO Delivers 11,000 CMS Accounts for Children in Gwangyang Area

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] On the 21st, POSCO delivered regular sponsorship CMS accounts to the Gwangyang City Children’s Care Foundation for the children, the future leaders of Gwangyang, at the Jungmadong Community Center, attended by about 90 stakeholders including Jung Hyun-bok, Mayor of Gwangyang, Kim Hak-dong, Head of the Steel Division, and Hwang Jae-woo, Chairman of the Children’s Care Foundation.

This regular sponsorship account delivery aims to contribute to solving social issues such as declining birth rates and population decrease by participating in Gwangyang City’s policy of “A City Good for Raising Children,” where POSCO, as a corporate citizen, supports various policies so that parents can raise children without the burden of childcare.

At the delivery ceremony, POSCO, seven group companies, and more than 50 partner companies delivered 11,000 accounts, and former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, who participated via video, sponsored the 33,333rd account, bringing the cumulative total of accounts for the Gwangyang City Children’s Care Foundation to over 30,000.

At the event, Kim Hak-dong, Head of POSCO’s Steel Division, who directly delivered the sponsorship funds, said, “I am pleased to deliver sponsorship funds to Gwangyang, an advanced city in educational environment,” and added, “I hope that Gwangyang, the youngest city in Jeonnam, continues its reputation as the leading city not only in education but also in welfare for youth, women, and the elderly.”

Mayor Jung Hyun-bok of Gwangyang said, “POSCO has always taken the lead in supporting local residents as a local company when the region was struggling and facing difficulties,” and expressed sincere gratitude to POSCO executives, employees, and partner company members who participated together.

The Children’s Care Foundation is promoting 16 childcare projects including support for healing-type education programs for children with special disabilities, installation of children’s boarding and alighting booths, early detection support for children with developmental delays, and free care services for children infected with diseases.

Meanwhile, POSCO is making various corporate-level efforts to solve low birth rates, such as remote work during childcare without career interruption and operating a win-win joint workplace daycare center. Last month, POSCO also purchased Gwangyang Love Gift Certificates worth 7.8 billion KRW to help revitalize the local economy.
