[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan County, Jeonnam (Governor Kim San) announced on the 21st that it is receiving great responses from students by creating vertical gardens in classrooms that combine air-purifying plants and air purification functions to establish a dust-free and pleasant classroom environment.
The vertical garden (bio wall) is equipped with air-purifying plants and air measurement and fine dust management devices, allowing students to observe the growth of plants and directly measure the fine dust concentration in the classroom. This helps them recognize environmental issues such as air and water pollution and experience respect for life.
Additionally, the plant-utilizing Green School plans to operate various horticultural programs, such as flowering vegetable gardens, to foster a proper understanding of plants and the natural environment.
This year, Muan Haengbok Elementary School and Mangun Middle School are participating as pilot education sites, and the program is receiving positive responses from students, teachers, and parents.
Governor Kim San stated, “We will continue to expand the Green School program, where students cultivate plants themselves, to reduce classroom fine dust and raise students’ awareness of environmental issues.”
