Gyeongnam Province Launches Carbon Neutrality Campaign on the 51st Anniversary of 'Earth Day'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do is operating the 13th Climate Change Week from the 22nd to the 28th to commemorate the 51st anniversary of 'Earth Day' and is carrying out various carbon-neutral lifestyle practice campaigns to reduce greenhouse gases in daily life.

Earth Day is a civilian-led global commemorative day that began on April 22, 1970, with the purpose of protecting the Earth's environment, triggered by an offshore oil spill accident that occurred in California, USA, in 1969.

Starting in 2009, this year's 13th 'Climate Change Week' theme is 'Restore Our Earth, Right Now, Starting with Me! 2050 Carbon Neutrality.'

The province plans to conduct online and offline events such as SNS relay climate action declarations, the Action! Right Now Earth Life online campaign, and the Carbon Neutrality? Climate Action Practice Pledge Campaign together with 18 cities and counties and the Gyeongnam Climate Environment Network.

Centered on 31 participating organizations of the Gyeongsangnam-do Climate Environment Network, including the Korea Energy Agency, Gyeongnam Energy Citizens' Solidarity, Gyeongnam Energy, and Korea South-East Power Samcheonpo Thermal Power Headquarters, the 'Climate Action Relay Declaration' began on the 19th.

The 'Action! Right Now Earth Life Online Event' will also be held.

Targeting residents, under the theme '10 Days Promise for the Earth!', those who suggest creative keywords will be provided with eco-friendly daily necessities.

Additionally, from the 21st to the 24th, centered on Changwon and Gimhae cities, a 'Carbon Neutrality·Climate Action Practice Pledge Campaign' will be conducted using kiosks together with Green Leaders.

In cooperation with local communities such as the Naeseo Apartment Association and social cooperatives, a 'Veranda Garden Cultivation' event will also be promoted.

The Earth Day lights-off event will be held simultaneously nationwide for 10 minutes from 8 PM on the 22nd.

On this day, 558 public buildings and 146 apartment complexes in the province, excluding COVID-19 testing institutions and control rooms, will participate to take the lead in reducing greenhouse gases.

About 20 winning works of the 36th Meteorology and Climate Contest photo exhibition will be displayed on the first floor of the Western Office Building of the Gyeongnam Provincial Government.

In Changwon City, climate action promotion stickers will be attached to about 3,900 Nubija bicycles for year-round promotion.
