[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The government held a consulting session on the 21st to expand the eco-friendly and low-carbon labor-management win-win job models, such as offshore wind power and water industry, this year. This comes after the first model, the Gwangju-type job, received usage approval following the completion of the Gwangju Global Motors (GGM) finished car factory. It is noteworthy that the focus is shifting from traditional manufacturing businesses such as small cars, root industry complexes, and secondary batteries to eco-friendly industries.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that it held the 'Labor-Management Win-Win Regional Job Workshop' at 10 a.m. on the same day at Hotel ICC in Daejeon, together with the Labor-Management Development Foundation. Officials from nine local governments selected for this year's projects, including Jeollanam-do and Daegu Metropolitan City, participated. These nine local governments receive support necessary for their regional job models through financial support and expert-led on-site advisory groups.

According to the Ministry of Employment, eight local governments including Gwangju Metropolitan City have so far established win-win cooperation and created more than 13,000 direct and regular jobs through investments totaling 52 trillion won. At the workshop, labor, management, civil society, and government jointly briefed on the progress of the 'Gunsan-type job' project, where five companies including Myungshin created an electric vehicle cluster at the GM Gunsan plant and Saemangeum industrial complex.

The nine regions presented their respective job model directions and implementation plans. Jeonnam concretized the implementation of the win-win agreement to create an offshore wind power industry ecosystem, and Daegu decided to develop a Daegu-type water industry win-win model within the National Water Industry Cluster. Many of the models focused on eco-friendly and low-carbon businesses. Representative examples include Seosan City in Chungcheongnam-do developing a future digital agro-biological job creation model, Jeonju City in Jeollabuk-do fostering a carbon industry ecosystem, and Taebaek City in Gangwon-do linking urban regeneration. These represent a shift from the existing manufacturing-centered businesses such as Gwangju GGM small cars, Miryang root industry complex, and Gumi secondary batteries.

Kwon Kisub, Director of Labor Policy at the Ministry of Employment, said, "Win-win regional jobs are meaningful beyond the number of new jobs created because they are jobs born from local initiatives and cooperation and concessions among labor, management, civil society, and government." He added, "The government will actively support not only consulting but also the activation of cooperation among local labor, management, civil society, and government."

Jung Hyungwoo, Secretary General of the Foundation, said, "Korea's first model, the 'Gwangju-type job,' was made possible by creative and effective alternatives through a social grand compromise among local labor, management, civil society, and government under the common goal of job creation." He added, "The Foundation will support the development of various job models suited to local conditions and help place them on win-win job platforms."
