Guro-gu Holds the 99th Children's Day Event Online

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) will hold an event to celebrate the 99th Children's Day.

Guro-gu stated on the 21st, "We have prepared various programs to discover children's artistic talents and provide opportunities for creativity development," adding, "In the past, Children's Day events were held with children, adolescents, and families gathering together, but this year, to prevent COVID-19, the event will be held non-face-to-face."

The non-face-to-face Children's Day event will be held from the 21st to the 23rd, targeting works by children recommended by local elementary schools.

The participation categories include drawing (free theme), writing contest (prose, poetry), and Ako (Baby Elephant) 4-panel comic drawing. The writing contest themes are friends, masks, sky, spring road, etc., and the Ako comic drawing is held under the theme of creating a world where children are respected. Ako is a character developed last year by the UNICEF Child-Friendly Cities Local Government Council.

Guro-gu was recognized as a UNICEF Child-Friendly City in 2019 for its various efforts to create a child-friendly environment.

Elementary schools wishing to participate can submit the original works in person to the Senior and Youth Division of the district office. For more details, please refer to the district office website.

Awards will be selected through judging by committee members recommended by the Guro Writers' Association, Guro Art Association, and child-specialized organizations, with 25 winners in each category including Grand Prize, Excellence Award, and Merit Award, totaling 75 winners.

The results will be individually notified on the 30th and can also be checked on the district website.

In addition, Guro-gu will discover exemplary children and adolescents and award certificates of commendation.

The commendation targets are students recommended by their school principals among elementary, middle, and high school students. The recommendation criteria for middle and high schools include four areas: exemplary behavior, volunteer work, good deeds, and filial piety. This includes students who serve as role models in various fields such as science and arts, students actively participating in community service, students performing good deeds or caring for neighbors in need, and students with deep filial piety toward their parents.

A Guro-gu official said, "We hope this event will bring comfort to children who have been exhausted by COVID-19 for a long time," and added, "We will continue to do our best to help children freely express their talents and abilities using various methods."
