153m Giant Sculpture 'Saengmyeong-ui Gori' Designed by Renowned Architect
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A massive 153-meter-tall sculpture in Liaoning Province, China, has turned into a slide, causing headaches for the authorities.
According to local media in Liaoning Province on the 19th, the "Saengmyeongjihwan" (Ring of Life) installed in Fushun, Liaoning Province, is a gigantic structure with a diameter of 170 meters and a height of 153 meters.
Completed in 2012, the "Ring of Life" was designed by a famous architect who was responsible for the design of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, a landmark in Shanghai, drawing attention at the time.
It was built at a huge cost of 19.2 billion won, but now, nine years after its completion, it has become a slide for locals.
Videos of both children and adults enjoying this sculpture like a slide are spreading on social media.
Although warning signs say not to climb it, people seem to ignore them.
Some parents even filmed their children playing on it with their smartphones.
The parts where people have climbed and slid have already discolored and turned black.
Due to friction heat when sliding, there is a risk of abrasions, and because of the height, there is also a danger of serious injury if someone falls.
The authorities have belatedly decided to install fences around the sculpture.
Netizens who saw this reacted with comments like, "Honestly, anyone would want to try sliding on that," "It looks exactly like a slide," and "I bet even motorcyclists would come out."
