"People Power Party, an Attractive Presidential Platform... Most Supported by Citizens Eager for Change from Moon Administration"
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Jang Je-won, a member of the People Power Party, claimed on the 20th that "if Yoon Seok-yeol, the former Prosecutor General who is considered a leading candidate for the next presidential election, does not join the People Power Party, there will be no path to the presidency."
On the same day, Jang said in a post on his Facebook, "Recently, there has been much debate outside the party regarding the whereabouts of former Prosecutor General Yoon."
He added, "Every time the presidential election approaches, there are people who try to meddle in politics by approaching leading presidential candidates and giving unsolicited advice," and said, "They whisper tempting words such as 'If you join the People Power Party, a swan becomes a duck,' or 'If you play in muddy waters, you become the same kind of person.'
He continued, "Some even mock the People Power Party by saying, 'The People Power Party is a chaotic place, so you shouldn't join,'" and criticized, "This is a cunning meddling filled with venom like a snake's tongue, and cheap political scheming."
Earlier, Kim Jong-in, former emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, said regarding the possibility of Yoon joining the party, "I don't think he will go. What benefit is there in going to that chaotic place?"
Jang emphasized, "From the moment former Prosecutor General Yoon joins the People Power Party, wins the primary, and becomes the party's presidential candidate until the presidential election, the People Power Party will become 'a party for Yoon Seok-yeol, by Yoon Seok-yeol, and of Yoon Seok-yeol.'"
He also said, "A political party can show change to the people through its figures. The times when a party can inject new figures are during general and presidential elections," adding, "The more prominent the presidential candidate, the more excellent personnel gather. You can use people you like within the party, and you can recruit many talented individuals to take on major roles and put them at the forefront."
He continued, "That is how a party reforms and innovates. Weighing options from outside is something only timid cowards do, and it is merely the jealousy of those who have distanced themselves from the party," and questioned, "How can someone who is not confident enough to control a single party to reform and innovate it take control of South Korea and innovate the country?"
Furthermore, he said, "The argument against the entry of a leading opposition presidential candidate outside the party is nothing but a childish wordplay aimed at sowing discord between the leading presidential candidate and the main opposition party," adding, "Such discord also creates space for political scheming."
Finally, Jang urged again for Yoon's entry, saying, "The People Power Party, the main bastion of South Korea's moderate conservatism, is the most attractive platform for those aiming for the presidency, and it is an unshakable fact that it is the party most supported by the people who long for the replacement of the Moon Jae-in administration."
