[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, revealed that he is developing a service where people can have real-time conversations, similar to the voice-based social networking service (SNS) 'Clubhouse.'

According to CNBC on the 19th (local time), Zuckerberg stated that he is developing a service called 'Live Audio Rooms.'

Facebook also explained through its official blog, "'Live Audio Rooms' will be available through the Facebook app and Messenger starting this summer," adding, "We plan to allow 'Live Audio Rooms' hosts to charge participants who join their chat rooms."

Clubhouse, developed in 2020 by the software development company Alpha Exploration, is a voice-based communication app. Unlike traditional text-based chats, it allows communication through one's own voice and operates as a closed system where participation requires an invitation from existing members.

Additionally, Zuckerberg mentioned that the 'Soundbites' feature, short audio clips that users can share on their Facebook feed, will enter beta testing within a few months. Facebook plans to provide production tools for Soundbites and is reportedly preparing an 'Audio Creator Fund' to reward content creators.

Zuckerberg also said that Facebook plans to enable users to find and listen to their desired podcasts within the Facebook app.
