[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Dong-Eui Institute of Technology baseball team celebrated its first-ever victory since its establishment.
The Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) baseball team (Manager Yeom Jong-seok) recently secured its first win since its founding in the ‘2021 KUSF College Baseball U-League’ which opened recently.
On the 15th, the college baseball league tournament hosted and organized by the Korea University Sports Federation and the Korea University Baseball Federation commenced.
The tournament, featuring 43 college baseball teams nationwide and 1,300 players, is being held across five regions including Mokdong in Seoul, Hoengseong in Gangwon Province, and Boeun in Chungbuk Province.
The university baseball team was established in May last year, becoming the first specialized college in the Busan area to do so. Yeom Jong-seok, a key player in the Lotte Giants’ 1992 Korean Series championship, took the helm as the inaugural manager. The team is composed of coaches and players from high school baseball backgrounds. The team captain is student Park Se-hoon (Department of Social Physical Education, Class of 2021).
On the 15th, the Dong-Eui Institute of Technology baseball team played its first official game at the Boeun Sports Park baseball stadium in Chungbuk, with their first opponent being the Shinseong University baseball team (Manager Yoo Yong-mok), which was also established last year.
The Dong-Eui Institute of Technology baseball team started off well by scoring the first run in the bottom of the first inning, but they conceded runs in the 3rd and 4th innings, trailing 1-3 until mid-game.
However, in the 8th inning, they scored 4 runs with a pinch hitter, ultimately achieving a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Shinseong University with a final score of 5-4.
The university praised Manager Yeom Jong-seok’s brilliant pinch-hitting strategy in the 8th inning as a key turning point in the game, and highlighted the players’ mental strength in maintaining focus despite being behind, which turned the tide.
Manager Yeom Jong-seok said, “I am proud of the players who stayed focused until the end despite the tough game situation and the pressure of the first match,” and added, “I am grateful to the university for their full support in establishing and operating the baseball team even under difficult circumstances.”
