Preventing a "Second LH Scandal"... "Relay Agreement Among 17 Local Governments Nationwide"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) signed a business agreement with Gyeongsangbuk-do on the 20th to strengthen anti-corruption and integrity measures together with local governments, following suspicions of land speculation by employees of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH). After signing the first agreement with Incheon City on the 19th, they plan to sign relay agreements with 17 metropolitan local governments.
Through the agreement with Gyeongbuk Province on this day, the ACRC plans to mutually cooperate in promoting anti-corruption and integrity policies to improve integrity, strengthening management of conflict of interest vulnerable areas and compliance with the Code of Conduct for Public Officials, expanding integrity education for public officials to raise the level of integrity in public service, and operating systems to enhance protection for whistleblowers reporting corruption and public interest violations.
Earlier, the ACRC announced that as one of the tasks to prevent moral hazard in public institutions such as the 'LH incident,' it will promote strengthened anti-corruption cooperation with local governments. This is one of the ACRC's 'Top 10 Anti-Corruption and Integrity Innovation Tasks.'
Jeon Hyun-hee, Chairperson of the ACRC, said, "Through this agreement, we expect it to be an important opportunity to raise the integrity and fairness of the public service and to enter the world's top 20 advanced countries in integrity," adding, "I hope that the ACRC and Gyeongbuk Province will cooperate to effectively resolve difficulties faced by citizens such as grievance complaints and social conflicts."
Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, "Recently, Gyeongbuk is nurturing 'integrity' as a soft power amid the existential crisis of local extinction," and added, "We will cooperate to design a sustainable future for Gyeongbuk through integrity and fairness."
