Gwanak-gu Selected as Final Participant in Seoul-Style Clothing Manufacturing Collaboration Support Project

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has been finally selected for the ‘2021 Seoul-type Apparel Manufacturing Collaboration Support Project’ announced by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

The Seoul-type Apparel Manufacturing Collaboration Support Project is a program that enhances market competitiveness through collaboration support among labor-intensive apparel manufacturing companies based on skilled technology, and supports the expansion of work orders by discovering new business models reflecting changes in the consumer environment.

The district announced that since the Seoul Metropolitan Government started the public contest project, the ‘Gwanak Apparel Manufacturing Platform Construction Project’ by the local apparel manufacturing association, the Gwanak Fashion Sewing Association (President Kim Younggu), was finally selected in its first application.

With this selection, a total budget of 70 million KRW will be invested, including 55 million KRW from the city government, 10 million KRW from the district government, and 5 million KRW in self-funding, to build the ‘Gwanak Fashion Premium Shop (tentative name).’

The project period is from May 1 to December 31, and the project targets 29 companies registered with the Gwanak Fashion Sewing Association in the region.

The district will first conduct collaboration consulting on management strategy, brand management, and market development. Through this, market demand and consumer needs will be identified, and a collaboration promotion council composed of apparel manufacturers, related local organizations, and experts will be formed to manage the progress and continuous performance.

Subsequently, a unique joint brand for the district will be developed through brand naming, BI, and logo production, and a smart platform (website) will be established to support online promotion and marketing for each participating company (including joint brand products) for work linkage.

Additionally, a designer will be hired to develop samples and patterns of joint brand products. The developed products will be supported with fabric production costs for participating apparel companies, and after production, they will be photographed and edited by a professional design institution and promoted through the established website and various SNS channels.

Furthermore, joint sales exhibitions will be held in collaboration with related organizations and local residents to explore ways to connect with the local community. This will contribute to stabilizing the profits of apparel manufacturers and strengthening the self-sustainability of small manufacturers by creating a virtuous cycle ecosystem of the collaboration platform.

Mayor Park Junhee said, “The selection for this public contest project will be an opportunity to pioneer distribution channels for the apparel manufacturing industry, which has been limited to offline, into a new business model online,” and added, “We will do our best to become a regional economic hub by continuously establishing a collaborative system with the local community to create high added value in the apparel manufacturing industry and expand work orders.”
