Gwangju Veterans Affairs Office, 4·19 National Merit Badge Attachment Ceremony

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Regional Veterans Affairs Office (Director Im Seonghyun) held an event to attach nameplates for national merit recipients in commemoration of the 61st anniversary of the April 19 Revolution.

The Gwangju Veterans Affairs Office announced on the 19th that, together with Jangseong County, it delivered and attached a national merit recipient nameplate to Kim Hyunja, the spouse of the late Yu Hakjong, a wounded participant of the April 19 Revolution.

The late Yu Hakjong was registered as a wounded participant of the April 19 Revolution after sustaining a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen while participating in a protest near Seoul Station during the April 19 Revolution in 1960.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs has been promoting the “Nameplate Attachment for National Merit Recipients” project since 2019 to honor and comfort national merit recipients who live with untold pain due to their sacrifices for the country, together with local communities. Starting this year, the scope of recipients has been expanded to include their bereaved families, with plans to provide nameplates sequentially over two years.
