From 8 PM on the 22nd, a 10-minute Low-Carbon Living Practice Campaign
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 19th that it will designate the week from April 22 to 28 as Climate Change Week in celebration of the 51st Earth Day (April 22), and will hold a lights-out event for 10 minutes from 8 p.m. on the 22nd.
This event involves turning off indoor and outdoor lights and cutting power to electronic devices such as computers in government offices and public institutions, while apartment complexes and others will participate voluntarily.
‘Earth Day’ is a global commemorative day that began on April 22, 1970, to protect the Earth's environment, triggered by an offshore oil spill accident that occurred in California, USA, in 1969.
In particular, the theme of this Climate Change Week event is designated as ‘Restore our Earth: Starting Now, Carbon Neutrality 2050 from Me,’ emphasizing that practical actions in daily life are most important.
Im Chang-bok, head of the Environment and Livestock Division, said, “Although this lights-out event is a small act, I ask for much interest and participation with the mindset of starting from myself,” and added, “I hope this will be an opportunity to recognize the seriousness of climate change and join the movement for low-carbon living such as energy saving.”
Meanwhile, Gangjin-gun is promoting eco-friendly projects such as the Gangjin Bay Ecological Park Development Project, Smart Green City Development Project, and air-purifying forest at the landfill site in line with the government’s carbon neutrality promotion strategy, and is also carrying out various climate crisis overcoming projects including support for purchasing LPG cargo trucks and the distribution of eco-friendly vehicles.
